Yes, and you should. We bring sample boards to the estimate and hold them up against your siding, brick, and trim in your own light. A color that looks right on a screen can look completely different on a west-facing slope at four in the afternoon.
A lighter shingle reflects more heat than a dark one, and in a Grand Valley July that isn't nothing. But on a house, ventilation and attic insulation move the needle far more than shingle color does. Pick the color you want to look at for the next twenty-five years; fix the ventilation separately.
Mid-tone blends with several granule colors in them — the grays, weathered woods, and driftwoods — hold their look longest here. Solid very dark colors show fading and chalking sooner under high-altitude UV, and very light ones show dirt and streaking sooner. Neither is wrong, they just age differently.
No, and they often shouldn't. Drip edge is trim — most people either match it to the fascia and gutters so it disappears, or pick it to line up with window trim. It's a small detail that reads as finished or unfinished from the curb.

It's worth settling gauge and color together rather than falling for a color that isn't made in the panel you want.
