The photos below include the roof as we found it. The old shingles were worn flat across every slope, with enough granule loss that the gutters had started collecting it — the point at which patching stops being worth doing and a replacement is the honest answer.
The finished roof is Onyx Black, which reads almost charcoal in Grand Valley sun rather than the flat black it looks like on a sample board. Worth seeing on a real roof before choosing it.
